Insolvency Event: FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS – INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OVER-INDEBTEDNESS AND CREDIT REGULATION, PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA, 12 – 14 AUGUST

Professor Andre Boraine of the University of Pretoria (pictured) has put out a first call for papers for a conference entitled, "INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OVER-INDEBTEDNESS AND CREDIT REGULATION." The conference is due to take place in Pretoria, South Africa between the 12 and 14 August 2010. Professor Boraine's call notes:
"As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, the University of Pretoria Law Clinic is hosting an international conference on over-indebtedness and credit regulation, with the support of the Faculty of Law’s departments of Mercantile and Procedural Law and the National Credit Regulator of South Africa. Amongst the South-African experts that already confirmed their participation, are Prof A Boraine (University of Pretoria) and Judge Bertelsmann (High Court of South Africa) and Mr G Davel (National Credit Regulator of South Africa). In addition to South African experts, several prominent international experts have been invited and the following have already confirmed their attendance: Emeritus Professor H Rajak (Sussex Law School), Professor P McCoy (University of Connecticut School of Law) & Professor N J H Huls (University of Leiden and Erasmus University) have already confirmed their participation in the conference.

The conference, held in Pretoria, South Africa, will commence with a welcoming function on the evening of the 12th of August 2010, and conference proceedings will take place on the 13th and 14th of August 2010.

The sub-themes are the following:

  • Prevention of over-indebtedness;
  • Debt relief measures for over-indebted consumers;
  • Education, research and community engagement;
  • Role and function of credit regulators.

Interested parties are invited to submit abstracts relating on these themes for consideration to lawconference@up.ac.za. Abstracts should reach us by not later than 30 April 2010 and should not exceed 400 words. All submissions will be considered against relevance and on merit.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by 14 May 2010, and full papers and Powerpoint presentations must reach us no later than 30 June 2010. Papers accepted for presentation will be peer reviewed and considered for publication.
