Michael Green

It is with sadness that I have to report that Michael Green, a Research Fellow at the School for Business and Regional Development at the University of Wales, Bangor, died on 21 December 2009 following bypass surgery. Michael's funeral was held on Wednesday 6 January 2010 at Llandrillo yn Rhos Parish Church, Llandudno Road, Rhos on Sea, Conwy.

The family have requested that any donations can be made via the Funeral Director, T Conchar & Sons, 4 Woodland Road West, Colwyn Bay, Conwy LL29 7DH. Their telephone number is 01492 532206, and e-mail is concharfunerals@btconnect.com.

All donations will be given to Friends of Robert Owen House. This is a charitable facility provided for the use of relatives of patients of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital where Michael died. Although the house was given to the charity by the Health Trust, all running costs are the responsibility of the charity. Should you wish to find out more about Robert Owen House, there is a website.

Michael made a very substantial contribution to personal insolvency law and policy scholarship, particularly with his work on IVAs. Susan Morgan of KPMG LLP, who collaborated with Michael on IVA matters, said, "He will be greatly missed for his challenging and informative papers as well as his affable nature."

Professor Adrian Walters, of Nottingham Law School, noted, "Michael's contribution to our understanding of the debt resolution market and his influence on policy, especially in relation to individual voluntary arrangements, cannot be underestimated. As a man he was charming, colourful and fearless. He was never afraid to express an opinion even at the risk of putting noses out of joint. The world will be a duller place without him."
