Happy New Year! - in other news: MG report barrister becomes a High Court Judge

In other news - The barrister who co-drafted the report into the MG Rover debacle has been made a High Court judge assigned to the Chancery Division. Guy Newey QC (pictured) of Maitland Chambers, will be dubbed Sir Guy in due course by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He takes up his position on the 12 January 2010.

I didn't realise that High Court judges were automatically knighted. Are you sure that they are ?
Yes, this is the case. The Queen is pleased to approve that the honour of Knighthood (Knight Bachelor or Dame Commander) be conferred upon new Justices of the High Court. Recently a Welsh judge tried to decline the honour, but he took it in the end.
