Imprisonment for Debt - still with us!

Imprisonment for debt was abolished in 1869. No more Newgate debtors' prison (pictured) or other treatment of this nature pursuant to the Debtors' Act 1869. However, a recent story in Credit Today, which has been picked up by Debt Management Today, has highlighted the case of a bankrupt prison officer who has recently been sent to jail for failing to disclose the whereabouts of his assets.
